I'm a happy, happy, happy girl!! The Red Sox signed Mike Lowell to a 3 year 37.5 Million deal. Read about it here.
Thank you Theo - you did the right thing. I am most certain you will not regret it.

Mike Lowell & Other Things
So this is the latest I have posted for NaBloPoMo - but I said I was going to do it and dammit I am.
It was strange day. I haven't been at work due to my mom's surgery since last Wednesday. So today I arrive at work (10 minutes late of course) and just as I'm plugging in my computer all of the power goes out. I wait a second and it's clear it's not coming back on. I mosey on out to the plant and it's all dark too. Now the fun thing here is that my office is the only one without any outside windows. So my office was pitch black.
I soon find out a transformer on a telephone pole behind us blew up and power is not expected to be back on until 3-4pm. So I do what I can and then head out. I was taking a half day anyway - so I left at noon. I had all these great plans for getting school work done and well it's around 10:45pm and I'm just getting home...I won't get into that.

I'm thinking that the Red Sox are not going to sign Mike Lowell. I know Theo usually makes the right decision but I can't help but think signing Mike is the right decision. According to the announcers during the Celtics game - we should know something this weekend. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Champions Again
So we did it. We won the World Series again. This is the second time in 4 years. If you aren't from Boston or haven't at some point in time adopted the Red Sox as your team then you simply cannot fathom the heartbreak (unless you are a Cubs fan) that we have endured over the years. That being said - this win doesn't have the feel that 2004 win did - how could it? We weren't breaking a curse, we weren't proving the critics wrong, nor were we trying to exorcise the ghost of Billy Buckner.

I think the Rockies were a good team that were hurt by the 8 day layoff. The Sox had the momentum of just playing a 7 game series that they came back to win after being down 3 games. It's almost impossible to break that kind of momentum no matter who you are.
Now here is where my liberal, social work, democratic tendencies come screaming out. I hate the long panning shots of the dugout showing the losing team trying their best not to cry on national tv. I hate it that someone actually has to lose. Yes - I know it's a game blah blah blah but still - I can't help but feel bad.
Except for the Yankees - I never feel bad for the Yankees.
That brings me to the next thing. A-Rod opted out of his contract. There have been rumors flying around that we might try to sign him. This would be a very bad idea. Red Sox Nation would not accept Mr Rodriquez - not at all. Surprisingly this has little to do with him being a Yankee and more to do with the kind of guy he is. You could bring almost anyone over from the Yankees and I think we'd be fine with it. Hell, I think you could bring Damon back and we'd be fine with it (if not ecstatic) but A-Rod? No way.
Plus he plays third base - that's Mike Lowell's position and we need Mike Lowell (as I've said hundreds of times already).
By the way - there are a lot of happy Jordan's Furniture customers after last night. I think the only people who aren't too happy are the people at the insurance company who agreed to take on this deal.

We Are Up 3 Games to Zip
The Red Sox have the chance to win the World Series tonight. I have to say I really hope that they do because these 8:30 pm starts are fucking killing me. I am going into work like a dead woman. I'm already having enough trouble with my job - the last thing I need is an excuse to fall asleep at my desk.
It got a little sketchy tonight - but they pulled it out in the end 10-5. Colorado made a great come back attempt (I mean that seriously) but in the end we just out hit them. Dice-K got the win and Papelbon got the save.
Tomorrow night's starting pitcher is Jon Lester. Lester is currently in remission from anaplastic large cell lymphoma. I think it would be fabulous if he came in a pitched his ass off and won the final game of the World Series for the Sox.
Mike Lowell stole third base tonight. I'm always amazed by that. It seems that it should be an easy out for the catcher but the Colorado catcher didn't even get a throw off.
Theo Epstein (Sox GM) was quoted as saying that signing Mike Lowell was a "priority" and he was sure that somethingw would be able to be worked out. It better be. Letting him go or worse yet going after A-Rod would be huge mistakes. Alex Rodriquez is a pompous asshole who has no place on the Red Sox. None at all. You hear me Theo? Don't be a shithead. SIGN MIKE LOWELL.

This Call Is Being Recorded

So as I mentioned a trillion times I am in school finally finishing my undergraduate degree. This is my last semester and we are working on a thesis. Your thesis is a big project and you have to do tons of research. Not just regular research out of a book but interviews, experiential etc. All the kind of research that you might do if your paper was going to be published.
So with that in mind I am doing some interviews over the phone. Anyone who has done this knows how hard it is to ask questions, listen to the answers, write everything down and keep the interview moving along. So on the advice of my thesis group I went out and bought this nifty little device.
All you have to do is to hook this into your phone and then hook up a tape recorder to the other end and before you know it you are taping your phone calls. The best/worst part is the other person has no idea. I called my sister and she said that there was no way to tell on her end that she was being taped.I don't know about you but I find it creepy that for under $100 I can take everything that is said on my phone - or worse that I could be being taped without my knowledge.
Just a reminder it is absolutely illegal to tape someone's phone calls without their consent. Of course I will be telling all of my subjects in advance that they are being recorded and will immediately shut it down if they don't want to be recorded.
I mean who do you think I am? George Bush?

And let's not forget GO SOX!!!

Just Some Questions
Here are some random things from my brain:
What happened to Jacob Dylan and The Wallflowers? They came out with a kick ass first record...and then nothing.
Can you fucking believe that Tom Petty was 57 on Saturday?
Does anyone else think that it is ironic that Rosanne Barr is chastising Britney Spears on her mother skills?
Does anyone really want to hear the Spice Girls song? Apparently yes - the tickets for their reunion show sold out in something like 31 seconds....unbelievable.
I have two Panera Bread cafe's within one mile of me. Why can't I get decent fucking service at either of them? They have this asinine system where the person who takes your order - then goes and fills it. So you are left standing there - usually with a huge line behind you while they meander over to get your lemon-aid or bagel. Thankfully they leave the big orders for the "kitchen" thing they have going on. Every time I go there I want to grab the manager and scream at them "don't you see how fucking inefficient this is"? But I don't. And the best was today - I was in there getting scone and the woman who was getting my lemon aid was busy talking to the girl at the register about how the great comment that got mailed in about her was put up at some company meeting. This is while she is supposed to be getting me my drink and she hands it to me while she is still talking to her and never looks at me. The kicker is this woman was well over 50 so I can't even blame it on "those damn kids". She won't be getting any fucking great comment from me. Bitch.
Is anyone else disgusted that we spent 40 million on the Whitewater and Monica Lewinsky investigations but only spent 15 million on the 9/11 Commission? Good to know we have our priorities right.
This is an excellent breakdown of the World Series.
Is new TV as bad as it really seems? Literally the only show I watch now is Bones on Tuesday nights. That's a great show.
I've decided that when you get labeled a bad driver they actually make you move Rhode Island. Does anyone in that fucking state know how to drive?
Somehow this doesn't make me feel any better. Is there anyway to fast forward time?
Does anyone really care that Dumbledor is gay? Did it matter in any of the stories?
Is it wrong that I agree with ADW that using your femine "wiles' (In my case cleavage) to get things from men (and sometimes women)? No I didn't think it was wrong either.
This is one of my most favorite blogs. I read it everyday. It's an honest day to day view of what a life is like with a child who is autistic.
OK kids - that's all I got tonight. Be good.

Sweet Justice
Ok so I was wrong about Gagne - he actually did a great job.
The best part is Garko or whatever his name is made the last out. Was Fenway quiet enough for you? Jackass.

I'm Still Not Comfortable
Yes it's the 9th inning
Yes we are up a ridiculous amount of runs
No I am still not comfortable with them bringing Gagne in - the man shouldn't be anywhere near a pitchers mound. Why not Okajima or Papelbon?
Why Terry?? Why Why Why???

7 Strong From Schilling
Bottom of the 7th and Schilling looks good. Let me be clear - he looks good but he is in now way the old Schilling. I would imagine this is his last inning. Maybe Francona will let him start the 8th just so he can go out in front of the fans. That might be a nice thing to do.
Have you ever tried to write a paper while you are watching baseball? It's not easy but I'm proving it can be done. Thank goodness it's only a draft.
OK so it's 10-2. Things are looking good for tomorrow night.
Take that Garko you jackass. Silence Red Sox Nation in their own house INDEED!!!

I Wasn't Going To Vote For Him Anyway
Good thing Obama wasn't at the top of my list - now that I find out he's related to Satan's father Dick Cheney there is no way I can vote for him. Yes yes I know it's something like 8th cousins once removed or something like that. I don't care! He's not getting my vote.
Who is you ask? Sigh - probably Hillary but I don't know yet. I am still undecided.
Just a quick follow up on the union meeting. It went pretty well. The one employee took his $1800 check with a smile on his face (of course he did) and out of the four other grievances only one really had any merit. The best part is we were trying to decipher one of the grievances (me, plant manager, shop steward and union business agent) and we could not figure out who he was talking about when he alluded to someone getting "his" overtime. So we brought him in to explain.
The first grievance was because when he came into work on Monday there was too much work (I'm not kidding) and he thought he should have been called in on Sunday (double time) because he had to work really hard all day to catch up. Can you believe this shit?
The second grievance (same guy) was about the "fork lift driver" getting his overtime. It made no sense and the guy he was complaining about has seniority. Which automatically negates any claim of overtime. So what does this guy do when he hears he's losing both? He threatens to go back to his "old job". Right now he is currently covering a position for someone who is out sick. In this position he makes about .60 more an hour and works anywhere from 20-30 hours of OT. In his old position he gets less money and a lot less overtime - but he's going to teach us a lesson and go back to his old position. Good job - I'm sure your family will be thrilled with the cut in pay. Even the union steward was blown away by this and finally told the guy to get out of the office. If it wasn't so sad it would be funny.
10pm and I can barely keep my eyes open....DAMN YOU RED SOX!!
And DAMN YOU BLOGGER for being so Mac unfriendly. Sometimes I can upload pictures - sometimes I can't. None of the italics, bold or underline work on my mac and you can't spell check. It's starting to piss me off.
C'mon get with the freakin program - it's not like Macs came out yesterday.

Ohhhhh Shit
It's the bottom of the 5th and Wakefield is looking tired. Why have none of our starters (except for Beckett) been able to go past 5 innings without any issues? The inning started off with a home run - now there are runners at the corners with one out. Ohhhhhh boy Ukelis just juggled the ball - luckily it's foul so the runner at third has to go back.
We are using our bullpen way too much.
I think George may have been right when he said that washing my lucky Beckett shirt was a mistake.....I'm not wearing it tonight although it doesn't seem to matter. Case in point - Wakefield just got got his glove on the ball and screwed up Pedroia's play. That could have ended the inning - you can't blame Wake though it's all reaction when you see a ball coming at you.
I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to watch the rest - if I see one more freakin towel that says "It's Tribe Time" on it I'm going to lose it.
Yayyyy Wakefield just struck Travis out. 2 outs.
Oritz and Ramirez are up in the next inning.....say a little prayer.

Catch Up
Won $20 on the Pat's game yesterday from our plant manager- should the HR Manager be gambling with employees? Probably not but I seriously do not give a shit. My job is slowly killing me - I'm not going to get into it because as an HR Manager I read legal stuff daily on people getting fired for blogging about work - even if the stuff that they are writing about is true. Even though I'm unhappy at work - I do not want to be unemployed. Tonight I have to go to a business dinner with the VP of Sales and our new Outside Sales person. I like the VP and he's a huge Red Sox fan so I know the dinner will be short. I just keep thinking that I only have to hang on until May because that's when my degree is finished and it opens up a lot more opportunities for me.
I'm going to be a total girl for a minute I have new clothes on and new shoes and I love them......I'm a real casual dresser and I'm always pushing the limits at work as to what is acceptable. I figured it might be time to step it up a bit. So today I got a lot of "where are you going after work?" and the inevitable "do you have a job interview?" (Don't I wish!) It's kind of funny to watch people's reactions.
I'm incredibly stressed out about school. I have a meeting with my thesis group and our advisor on Sunday and we are supposed to have our introduction read and an outline of the rest of our work. My introduction is pretty done - but I need to get to work on my outline. I had a dream Saturday night that I had double booked my thesis presentation - it was one of those dreams where you run around and no one will help you. Lots of people smiling and saying it will be ok but no one really doing anything. I woke up so stressed out - so I did what any normal girl does when she is stressed. Went and spent $260 on clothes - this is after the $100 I spent on Saturday. It was a banner weekend in the shopping dept. The funny thing is I hate to shop - but it's in those moments of whipping through the racks and getting in and out of the store in 45 minutes that I know I am truly my mother's daughter.\
The Red Sox are 1-1 and they play tonight. C'mon Dice K we need this win.

One Down!

Ok one game down in the Cleveland series. My boys Mike Lowell and Josh Beckett were fabulous.
Unfortunately for Cleveland never really had a chance.....
3 more wins and then it's on to the World Series
On a side note it has always pissed me off that we call the meeting of two American teams the "world" series. We do the same in basketball. It's typically American that we think because one of our teams beats another one of our teams then we must be the best in the world. I know Soccer hasn't really caught on here but at least the World Cup is really the World Cup.
Anyway - Manny (who is literally out in left field mentally and physically) made some great catches tonight, the bats were on fire and Beckett pitched 6 great innings.
Game #2 tomorrow night 8pm Fenway Park.
Go Red Sox !!!

Now there are many reasons to love the Red Sox but here are my top two:

My GOD these boys (or men) are smokin hot. If Theo Epstein doesn't sign Mike Lowell it'll be the biggest mistake he's ever made. The man is GOOD for baseball in Boston in so, so many ways.
My friend Kim keeps telling me that Josh Beckett looks like a chipmunk - but for me to comment on his looks that would mean I would have to be spending time looking at his face - and we all know that this isn't the case - ok well maybe just a little.

But this....this really does it for me:

Jesus Christ - Mike Lowell up against a fence....god DAMN
So anyway tonight we kick Cleveland's ass on the way to the World Series it's going to be a fun ride.
